Jerky Transmission Fix - The jersey shits, especially from 1-2 and 2-1 is a documented complaint and your dealer should have no problem fixing it. There are 4 steps to fix common complaints with the GM *l90 8 speed automatic. First is a change to the fluid specification, second is a wiring change, third is a new valve body and finally to replace the torque converter. Problems listed are rough shifting between 1st and 2nd, rpm flare between shifts, slow shifting and shuttering drivetrain on the highway as the transmission shifts between 7th and 8th causing a feeling like the car is misfiring.
The Hydra-Matic 8L90 transmission has always jerked very hard in shifting in low gears. The dealer told me they would change the transmission fluid, but if that didn't resolve the problem there was nothing more they could do. This did not fix the problem.
AT low speeds the car is very jerky and shifted very hard from first gear to second gear. The problem is more of an annoyance but passages and even one of the techs said it felt odd when driving. They later had their certified transmission person check it and said it was normal. So keep in mind if you don't want a jerky start off make sure to test drive yours at low and high speed to verify it is smooth sailing as it only gets worse over time.
