key snapping off clean in the ignition lock cylinder

GM's cool-looking flip key (where you push the bottom on the key to "flip" out the key itself) broke off completely and cleanly inside the ignition lock cylinder. Tried getting it out for hours with no results. Stuck without a ride to work. Tried drilling the cylinder out to turn with screwdriver so I won't at least have to tow it on flatbed to shop or pay $100's to locksmith but didn't let it loose. What a piece of sh*t. Would have never happened on old Buick because the key was a solid steel rod key, not the hollow-bodied tube made of cheapest material available, and had lugs on the ignition key itself to turn instead of transmitting torque thru the key. Haven't had nearly as many problems with my 2004 Buick Century in 8 years of ownership as I did in the first 3 with this '12 Verano. Last GM car I buy.
