Smoke rises once driving for a while, when the engine gets hot and is running. There is a distinct smell you can smell if you stop at a traffic light. When stopped there is smoke coming out of the grill, not a huge amount but enough to notice, ie: little more than cigarette smoke, and about the same colour.
