Rendezvous CX 3.5L

This vehicle started stalling a few weeks ago on me and my wife. We love the vehicle but its making me pull my hair out. I am a very experienced mechanic and so was my father, and both my sons are as well. So we should be able to figure this out and we haven't. I have put new plugs and wires, a new coil, new crank sensor, new cam sensor, a new evap vent solinoid and still have this problem. I'm about ready to burn it. I love the vehicle and have spent a lot of money with zero results.

The car wants to stall at 55 mph. It's as if the car power just stalls/quits when hitting 55.

Rendezvous Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,000 miles

engine completely stalled on the interstate going 70mph

The vehicle is beautiful both inside and out. On the way home from a Myrtle Beach vacation was awful....On the interstate in West Virginia, without warning, the engine shut off. We had to quickly veer off into the side grass. Thank GOD we had AAA. They took us to a near Walmart. They could find nothing wrong. After changing a new battery, the car worked good for 15 minutes on the interstate. We are now stuck again in a gas station. Back to AAA. Towed us to a hotel in W. Virginia... The next morning, our family in OH, towed us back home... I gladly gave this mess back to the bank....

Replaced relay box, fuel and ignition sensor, alternator, starter, and computer. All of this done when engine would cut off or not start after turning it off. Found out one of the connectors in the relay box was burned and that was the last fix. Now the vehicle's reduced engines power light comes on, and speed is throttled down to about 20mph and the radio shuts off randomly. Now the check engine light stays on. The last option is to sell it for junk after pouring over $6000.00 in it.

About 10 days ago, the engine just shut off while I was driving. The same problem all the other users are having on this forum. I was able to pull off the road safely. The car would not restart immediately, but did so after about 5 minutes, then drove normally as if nothing happened.

Took it to my mechanic, there were no codes stored in the computer so he looked at some basic stuff. Said he tightened a loose wire on the ignition switch. It drove good for two days then stalled again, and a third time the next day. I researched on-line and found that the 2004 Rendezvous was recalled for this exact problem due to a faulty ignition relay. I sent that info to my mechanic and he did further research and found my car was using the same relay that was recalled in 2004.

It doesn't make sense that Buick would continue to put in a known faulty relay. Anyway, he put in a new relay for me for $12 - did not charge me any labor. Car is running fine for now, it has been two days and no more engine stalls. I'll update this post if it happens again. Keeping my fingers crossed while I'm driving.
