Replaced power steering pump at approx. 70,000 miles. At 150,000 miles the pump started to make a loud noise and losing power steering fluid. I would park the vehicle for a few weeks at a time and would lose all fluid. Pump is working and hose replaced. But now bearings worn out and again must be replaced.

When having the car serviced I spell out that Iit requires specific fluid. I assumed they installed correct fluid, if needed. Yet the growling presists.

Initial replacement didn't stop the noise of the pump when turning the steering wheel.

Two months later, returned it to the shop for another replacement pump.

Five months later noise returned and something on the pump blew fluid out on garage floor.

New pump installed.

Shortly there after we noticed that when turn the wheel to the extremes, parallel parking for example, the steering assist went away. It was as if there wasn't any power steering.

December 2010 car back in shop and mechanic says we need a new rack and pinion! ! ! !
