Vehicle sputtered slightly during idle, problem progressed, occasional stalling at idle; loss of power at high RPM. Salesman suggested might be tank of bad gas. Next: blue smoke from exhaust. Unburned fuel smell. CEL for cylinder misfire. Plugs, coils OK. Initial repair was fuel injectors $900, dealer advised white smoke "could be cracked pistons" KNOWN PROBLEM.

Repeated stalls at idle within 24 hours, new CELs for throttle body, irregular emissions.

Second dealer diagnosed... stated engine needed replacement or complete rebuild. DID NOT KNOW INITIAL CAUSE.

GM refused to fully cover as vehicle was out of warranty due to title date. Engine rebuild was partially underwritten, final cost $3,500.
