This is a daily driver vehicle. No noticeable signs prior to the transmission giving out. Intended to accelerate after turning right and noticed the tach hit about 4K and felt no acceleration. Thought the car had slipped into neutral. Tried again, but with less footpedal; only a minimal response. I happen to be near a college campus parking lot, limped it about 1/2 mile (top speed 20) into a mostly unused section in the open, and had it towed the next day.

Basic rebuild was $1600, plus $200 for replacing worn out motor mounts. Shop offered 6 mo. unlimited mileage warranty. So far 5K on the rebuild, seems strong / smooth, tows ok when I pull a small trailer. The most likely reason for the failure, the mechanic noted that a washer that normally holds the fluid within the torque converter was installed incorrectly (or was missing entirely) and allowed fluid to escape and not be pumped where lubrication was needed. A new set of bands were installed to resolve the issue.
