thumping noise when turning thumping noise when turning thumping noise when turning

Normally a tie rod end ball joint doesn't wear out on a 6 year old sedan, but when the sway bar link snapped, this put more wear and tear directly on the steering. This was discovered because of a thumping noise that sounded like the car had just hit a medium sized rock, whenever I went to turn either right or left. It also occurred when hitting a bump, driving below 40 mph. Never heard any noise at highway speeds with this issue. Replacing the broken rusted out sway bar linkage and both right and left ball joints set me back $239. Now I have to go get the steering aligned which will be another $70.
