At slow speeds, 35mph or less, my tachometer will suddenly quit, the engine may or may not quit. If the engine does not quit, I will feel a hesitation that resembles the automatic transmission shifting into the next gear.
The engine has quit at stop lights a couple of times. On the road twice. And lost the tachometer without the engine quitting approximately 5 times. When I lose the tach, I can stop the engine, restart it, and the tach works again until whenever. On 2 occasions, the engine was difficult to start.

Update from Jun 9, 2010: The culprit is the flywheel sensor. The computer was getting a false reading from the sensor telling it that flywheel and timing was out of sync and to protect the engine, it shuts it off.
The cause of the malfunctioning flywheel sensor..., the tiniest of leaks from my water pump which sits directly above the sensor.
Changed out both.
A computer check promptly told the mechanic, via the code number, that is was the sensor.
