problem #3

LeSabre Limited 3.8L

Just purchased used. Plastic Plenum (intake manifold) melted and antifreeze went into oil . Hubby didn't know and refilled antifreeze again and almost locked up engine. This was fixed and mechanic changed oil 4 times with a lot of sludge being the issue. He said drive it a week and change oil and repeat x3 . Since a lot of deep snow didn't drive much, Oil change at WalMart 12/31/13, on 1/6/14 went 1 mile and oil pressure went to zero and heard loud knock and shut it off leading to unknown problem /fix #2. Either Rod or oil pump. pderr36751@aol.com

LeSabre ES 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I know the car is 12 years old, but come on, failure at 75,000 miles? I thought this was suppose to be one of the best engines made. This care was very well taken care of. Literally driven to church and back by a little old lady, my mom. Never had a check engine light or any other indication. Heater started blowing cold air and engine would not restart after pulling over and parking to add water.

Thanks to AutoBeef, found this is a common problem with the engine, and also that the repair can fix the problem. I guess it's a pretty good engine with this one glaring problem. Car had coolant seeping into the cylinders from the crack, dark smelly smoke and then died. Towed and repaired for about $1000 at national chain. I was told it could have been done by a "local shop" for about $700.
