My family and I were driving on the highway to start our vacation in another state. Just as we arrived in that state, my car started to shake like it was going to cut off while sitting idle at a red light. The check engine light came on and my navigation screen went blank. As I started to drive, the car was still acting like it wanted to cut off and it did. Luckily, no one was behind me because if they were they probably would have crashed into me. The car cranked back up with a loud squealing noise.

I was able to get the car to a Buick dealership and the employees there were fantastic. The cause ended up being a vacuum leak due to a torn diaphragm in the PCV valve of the camshaft cover. They were able to replace the camshaft in time for my family and I to return to our home state.

The problem started with the car acting like it was struggling to crank but would still crank up. Then, the vehicle started to shake sometimes when sitting idle like the car wanted to cut off or something. The last thing to happen was the check engine light came on and stayed on after a few days of this so I took it to the dealer that I purchased the car from. They replaced the turbo charger and luckily it was covered under warranty.

Coming home from a work trip on 6/30 driving approx. 70mph with the cruise control on. All of the sudden I hear a loud pop, and my check engine light comes on and my rpms go up to about 4000k. I was able to safely pull over to the side of the interstate and inspect the car. It was not overheating and it was idling fine. I thought I would locate the nearest auto zone and have them pull the code to see why it was showing. I started to take off and get on the interstate. I knew immediately as soon as my car went from 1st to 2nd gear, I had absolutely no power and could not speed up above 35mph. This was on a Sunday, so I knew that I would have to stay the night again out of town so someone could look at it first thing Monday. I was able to limp to the closest dealership to me, Serra Buck GMC in Hendersonville, TN. Monday rolls around and they were able to look at it, sure enough turbo charger failure and they said it would have to be replaced. I understand, things happen. I wasn't upset. I knew it was under warranty. I ask them when it would be fixed. They said they didn't know b/c the part was on a national backorder. I was like ok, well I will just come by and pick up a loaner until it is fixed. They stated they could not have a loaner out that long. I then responded, Ok, well I don't mind to rent a car and you all can just reimburse me when it is fixed. They stated they could not do that either, that if I wanted any help I needed to contact GM customer service. Of course, I called. They were very helpful initially. They approved me a rental for 3 days to make it home, as I was out of town and had no way to get home at this point. I make it home and GM follows up with me the following day. They now state that the reason that Serra Buick GMC will not provide me with a loaner is b/c my car is still driveable. I explain to the lady from GM that yeah, I can drive it, but no faster than 35mph and I am not able to make it up hills or mountains. (Side Note, I live in TN, not exactly flat plains everywhere. Also, even if I didn't take the interstate home, I still have to cross a mountain to which I could not make it up.) I told the lady, a car with no brakes due to a malfunction is still driveable. You might not be able to stop, but it will still go. She understood where I was coming from, being that merging into traffic while trying to drive a car with no power was not feasible. She however said she could not provide me with a rental longer than 3 days, that I would need to figure out what I was going to do. I asked her if I could have it towed to my dealership (where I live) to have it worked on, which she stated that was fine. I towed the car at my expense to my local dealership. Now, I love my local dealership, Integrity Buick GMC in Chattanooga, TN. They have gone above and beyond during this entire process. The turbo ended up taking over a month to arrive and for my car to be fixed. They called me every week, even if they didn't have an update to let me know that they had not forgot about me. They also understood that the car was not driveable, and provided me with a loaner for the entire time the car was not working. They definitely have my business for life (I did not buy the car from them either). I am a fan of General Motors, but the process was completely absurd. I don't blame Integrity at all. Now, Serra Buick GMC is terrible and would not recommend them AT ALL. I am still having an issue with the car surging and the car is having trouble idling at times. I have taken it back to the dealership and they cannot reproduce the issue to be able to fix it, I have it on video however. At this point, I have contacted an attorney to deal with GM directly. I am a fan of GM products, always have and always will. I understand that any car manufacture can make a lemon. Anything produced on a mass scale has that potential, however I do expect a car manufacture to stand by their product and make sure it continues to operate as designed. This has been anything but.

PS: The car that they authorized me to rent....had to be a GM product. I called all over Nashville and the only car rental place that had a GM product was at the airport and it was a Chevy Silverado. I called GM back to let them know that it was more expensive than what they were allotting to reimburse me. They stated not to worry about it, that they would take care of it. Guess what didn't happen...that reimbursement. At this point, I am leaving it to my lawyer to handle.

It's been 5 days since the engine light code P0299 came on and 4 days since it's been in the shop. The dealership said the turbocharger needs to be replaced and gave me a loaner. I am quite worried that there are other problems caused by the turbocharger failure and that this may be a recurrent problem as I've only had the car for a year and a half with 33K on it. I'm wondering if I should plan on getting rid of it before I'm finished paying it off and before the warranty expires.

Encore Essence AWD 1.4L 4 cyl

Car was picked up from my place of employment on the morning of 5/21/18. The car porter decided it was the turbo charger. I picked up a loaner on the evening of 5/21/2018 and returned it on the evening of 6/1/2018. I was told that the pistons and rings were replaced on my Encore.

I asked if the issue with the pistons and rings caused any permanent damage to the engine. The service manager assured me it would not. I am hoping that the pistons and rings did not cause permanent damage to the engine of my 2017 Buick Encore.

check engine light on

Experienced the engine light on at 553 miles!

Here are the details: • Had not filled up with gas for about 150 miles and probably six starts and stops. (It was not the gas cap) • Going up and down steep hills in winter weather with decreased acceleration. • OnStar diagnosed with a fuel mixture issue to the engine (didn't write down the code) • Dealer took it in with the light on and didn't find any issues.

My 2017 Encore was returned to me with the engine light off on the same day.
