So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The vehicle is usually kept in the garage. After sitting in the sun in temperatures exceeding 85 degrees, the car steering was hard to operate. It felt as though the steering was manual -- hard to turn on a curve and hard to turn left and right. This only seems to happen when the car sits outside in hot weather. I have not had the problem checked by my mechanic.
2003 BMW Z4. Consumer states that the power steering shut off while driving. Consumer states that the dealers have told him that they have no knowledge of the NHTSA bulletin. The consumer stated prior the power steering shutting off, the icon illuminated on the dashboard.
I have had the same problem for the past two summers regarding the steering when the car sets in the heat all day (except that it was worst this past summer, it now happens at about 85 F, instead of 90 F). The problem is that the car resists turning from center and when it does it will not return to center on its own; you must turn it back. This is a fairly dangerous problem if you are not aware of it and do not pay close attention.
