The contact stated that on the day the vehicle was purchased, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer due to low tire pressure on the passenger's side rear tire. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the passenger's side rear tire experienced a blowout. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence. An independent mechanic observed the tire and stated that the tire was defective. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage on the vehicle was 27,000. The tire failure mileage was 2,000.
The contact's son owns a 2017 BMW X5 equipped with pirelli scorpion verde all season tires, size: 255/50R19 107W (na). While driving 60 mph, the vehicle shook violently. The driver veered to the shoulder of the road where the contact noticed the tread separated from the rear tires. The vehicle was taken to a collision center where it was diagnosed that the tread separated from the tires. Both rear tires were replaced; however, approximately one month later, the rear passenger tire tread separated and was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they would inspect the tires. The failure mileage was 17,000.
