While driving on I80 (Illinois Interstate) the engine in my 2013 BMW which has only 49,010 mile froze and stopped working. It was towed to a local auto shop (Autonology Motor Service Foreign Car) thinking it was something minor that could be addressed simply. Foolish thinking on my part! The mechanic reported that it would require a whole new engine due to a spun bearing. Then I had it towed to the BMW dealer where it was purchased and the mechanics there reported the same conclusion. The BMW dealership offered 10K toward the rebuild for a new engine that would cost approximately 20K for an 8 year old car. With such low milage and constant car from BMW how did this happen? I am disillusioned and disappointed with TV commercials, ads and mailers which tout the superior mechanical engineering of BMW cars. Nope, not when the engine blows at 49K. I traded a Mercedes sedan for that BMW and now I have a pristine car, no accidents, no bumps or scratchers and now no workable engine.
