My 2020 BMW X3 rental accelerated suddenly while stopped waiting for a building underground garage door to open. It went through the door at top speed and went some distance inside before I managed to stop it just inches from a wall. I had my foot on the brake the whole time. I stepped harder on the brake, engaged the parking (push button) gear and cut off power - one or a combination of these actions made it stop. It was as if the car was possessed, like it had been taken over by a supernatural power. Fortunately there were no injuries but the garage door was destroyed and the car damaged. A terrifying experience.
