Owner of BMW 2019 X3 with sun/moon roof. Discovered substantial amount of water in car from leaky sunroof. Cause was blocked roof drains under the track/rail mechanism on the sunroof. Car was just out of warranty. Dealer claims that it is the owner's responsibility to clean the roof drains on the sunroof. The roof drains are not accessible to be cleaned except by BMW mechanic. Was told that cleaning the roof drains would cost approximately $2800. Discovered that this was a hidden defect and has been a problem for the X3 for several years. Class action suit settled for $550 million against BMW for this problem. My car was built the year after the settlement. The problem, based on anecdotal research on the Internet, has not been fixed.
Next door neighbor had the same car and had the same problem. Both of us were told different reasons for why the roof drains clog. No disclosures were made by the dealer when the car was purchased about this problem which affects many BMW X3. A prior event occurring approximately 1 year before was dismissed by the dealer who claimed the wetness in the car was probably due to our lack of closing the back lid properly. Was not informed that the X3 had chronic problems with leakage from sunroof. Please advise.
