Vanos sensor camshaft sensor is under the valve cover so exposed to a lot of heat and prone to fail. 4 hours labour to change out an $850 part, and also actuator motor costs the same but easy to change.
This is very poor design to have an electronic part inside the engine, high heat really shortens electronics life span...
