During acceleration there is a clunking and clicking sound that appears to be coming from the rear end until I reach about 30mph. First, I serviced the trans fluid. I then replaced the forward driveline and the problem persisted. I then replaced the center carrier bearing and the problem got even worse! The clunking now occurs on hills as well now. I looked at it with several other mechanics and we believe it is the rear-end/rear diff. I looked at the differential fluid and did see a very small amount of metal shavings. The cost of replacing the rear end or doing the work myself is more than I feel it is worth. Along the way ordering parts was a pain in the butt and price of parts was not practical compared to other vehicles. Also, with BMW there are some specific tools needed, which is also a pain in the butt. This is my first BMW and my last BMW...
