While driving home, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. When I turned the car off the smoke was billowing and coming into the car through the ventilation system. I came back to the car a while later and saw that the hood had a large round burn mark and all non-metal parts connected to the engine were melted. The car is currently inoperable. I called the BMW dealership that provides maintenance for my car and they told me of recall but said they didnt have a remedy at this time.
We had a bad coolant leak starting at 96,670 miles. We took our vehicle into our local repair shop, they fixed the coolant reservoir but the leak still persisted. We were told we would need a whole new water pump and housing unit however they couldn-??t fix it due to not having sufficient resources. After the leak started our vehicle has started acting up electronically (examples: seatbelt warning going off without anyone in the seat, overhead lights turning on while driving, ect)
Whiles driving on the highway, the car shifted to neutral. I pulled over to the shoulder and tried to start the car, but it won't start. I had to have it towed.
Back panel of sunroof shade comes off track and may get stuck inside the headliner, generally due to adhesive failure or broken clips. Seems to be a common issue for this year/model. Can cause car to reach unsafe temperatures in warm climates with shade stuck open. Can also cause shade to fall down and obstruct driver-??s view. Warranties generally won-??t cover repair since it is not a motor failure.
Toxic mold in ventilation plumbing. Makes all of us sick if we turn on ac, heat, or defrost. As a result can't see out of windshield when it gets fogged unless we all want to get sick. Mechanic is stating there is no solution for this. He has consulted BMW dealership mechanics and they are stating the same information. The only solution given was to remove the entire dash, all ventilation plumbing and hand clean it. However, the problem will come back.

My car smells like mold and I have not been able to isolate the issue to remove the smell. I am concerned it poses a serious health risk if mold is growing. There is not water in the vehicle as I have checked the floor boards and cushions. I have also replaced the A/C filter and checked the water drains for the sun roof. All seem to be working correctly.
While exiting the interstate, I heard a large boom and I noticed flying pieces of glass when I checked the review window. I pulled over, got out of car to look for damage saw none but could hear glass fragments when I began to move again. I was only blocks from my destination and checked the roof to see the broken moon roof. Nothing impacted the car so the window broke on its own. I checked with the dealership and was informed that they have no record of spontaneous breakage of the moon roofs but my son remember seeing a new segment on abc regarding this and sent me the link which is why I am following up with this complaint. I took a picture but don't know how to get it from my phone to this site.
My husband was driving home from work on paper mill road in newark, Delaware and heard a "kerthunk" from the engine. He pulled over to the hard shoulder of the road, saw he had not run over anything, and then saw oil gushing onto the road from the motor. A few minutes later, as he was sitting in the stationary car, he saw the hood of the car starting to bubble. He exited the vehicle and the car went up in flames. The fire department came and extinguished the fire -- that process took around 15 minutes. The Delaware state patrol (officer ferguson) arrived on the scene and had the car towed. The car had been maintained by the BMW dealer for a "check engine" light 9 days before the fire. BMW usa issued a notice in July 2017 about issues with a thermostat in the X1. The thermostat was the only part replaced by the dealer during service (nb: There had also been a normal oil change maintenance at the end of August by the same dealer.)
While driving the 2014 BMW X1 at highway speeds (60mph) the front glass panel of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded. The explosion caused a shocking boom, and some small fragments of tempered glass fell into the passenger compartment of the car, some fragments blew into the vehicle behind us and some fragments remained shattered in-place. When able to pull over and inspect, the glass seemed to shatter outward, and no object that may have impacted the glass could be found. The manufacturer denies responsibility for the spontaneous breakage, though the service personnel at the dealership said they have seen this happen in several other instances.
This car was parked in my sunny driveway, ambient temp ~85 degrees F. several hours later, I returned to drive it and found the rear glass over the hatch trunk lid broken into thousands of equal parts, but all in place with no indentation or evidence of anything having impacted the glass, such as a limb, rock, baseball, etc. When I touched the glass, it crumbled into the storage area and on the pavement. The autoglass repair place I took it to opined that this has occurred in various vehicles as a result of heat building up inside. If so, this is a serious manufacturing and design defect
