While I was on the highway, multiple messages were prompted on the xDrive screen. I managed to pull off the vehicle. I noted that oily smoke came out from the hood and oil was spilled all over the engine compartment. The car was towed to the dealership where I bought the vehicle. It was fixed under extended warranty for cracked oil filter housing. The engine oil was spilled over into the cooling system and contaminated the cooling system.
The rocker cover was also found bent and the gasket was leaking. All fixes were covered under my 200,000km extended warranty.
The service at the dealership was excellent and the service consultant was very professional. I am only surprised a German engine can fail like this.
I got my car back and it drives normal. Hope this problem won't happen in other BMWs with the same engine (X1, X3, 1, 3 & 5).
I love my BMW and it has not had any problems at all until this problem. Good luck to all.
