The safety system of a car is critical for both the passengers and also for inspection. This passenger seat belt light came on just before my annual inspection. All safety systems must be in compliance or no inspection sticker and I can not drive the car. It seems that this issue should not occur for any vehicle with less than 120,000 miles. From my investigation it seems like this is not a cheap fix. I am very disappointed with BMW and will probably not buy one in the next year when I update my vehicle. I think this should be a recall item if BMW feels that safety and reliability are key components of their brand.
