Same issue as every other 2005 530I owner has had. My battery was low and needed replaced and after a new battery was purchased and installed the fault light came on the I-drive system for the airbag. BMW dealer refuses to do anything about it as my vehicle is not included in the recall.. I don't understand why when there are numerous complaints on a faulty system why this should not be repaired, obviously they know that the issue is there but do not want to spend the money to fix their issue. So much for the german engineered ultimate driving machine. With all of the technology comes all of the issues it would be nice to see a manufacturer stand behind their car for a change.......if I failed to make a payment they would have surely repossessed it......funny how we cannot get something from them when they fail.

Air bag light illuminated, passenger restraint system error. Current recall on over 200,000 cars doesn't include the 05 530I as stated by dealer. Airbag on passages side rendered in operable with fault codes. As per recall this is due to defective passenger side mat. I believe this to be an extremely hazardous safety issue. Airbags will not deploy upon impact ! recall id # 05V504000. As I have seen in the complaints filed I'm not the only 2005 530I with this issue. I have seen numerous complaints, I guess BMW is waiting for a fatality to occur.

Much like the other complaints, I just copied and pasted this from another complainant. The passenger restraint system malfunction alarm came on the idrive. The dealer says that the vehicle is not covered under recall. However, the recall id #73368 exactly matches the description of my problem. Therefore, we believe that our vehicle should be covered. Please advise how to get this resolved as soon as possible so that I can get the car fixed. We are concerned because it's a serious safety issue when the front air bags will not come on in case of an accident. I went as far as to speak with BMW directly and they said it only goes to the 2004 models, and then to the 2006 models....yea, whatever. It's a safety recall, they should honor it, and BMW is completely inflexible when it comes to their customers. It's a shame not only will they not help, they want to charge over $1000 to the customer for a recall part. I'm trading my other BMW in on anything but another BMW and will drive my affected 530I until it reaches the scrap yard.

On 12/5/2011 - when I started the car, I noticed the message on my dashboard indicating a fault on passenger restraint system. There was not any incident that I can recall that would result in the error message. After further research, I discovered that the error message was a common fault on these type of cars due to a faulty mat sensor located under the front passenger seat. I also found out that there was a recall for some BMW cars of the same model (dependent of VIN). My husband immediately called BMW of fremont (northern ca) to inquire about the recall and I was told by the service advisor that he was not aware of such recall. I use this car daily to drop off our kids to school. I honestly think the issue really poses a serious threat on my kids safety since there is a high possibility that the air bags will not deploy in case of an accident. Lastly, I also think that BMW na should fix this issue free of charge since it is becoming to be a common problem to BMW cars (especially the model series that I have). It would be greatly appreciated if you can assist me resolve the issue with BMW na.

Thanks to your organization, BMW usa agreed to extend the warranty for the BMW passenger seat occupancy sensor mat airbag to 10 years. However, BMW usa is not honoring this commitment for my vehicle, a 2005 BMW 530I. Is there any way to ask BMW usa to honor this commitment? this part of my vehicle is affected by this problem, in the manner described by the recall, for the reasons described in the recall, and it is one of the vehicles covered by this recall--based on model and year information published.

While driving with my family over the weekend, I noticed the passenger air bag and seat belt light illuminate on the dash. The idrive stated there was a malfunction in the pass air bag. I took my car to the nearest dealer the next morning after finding that this is an ongoing/ common issue with the 5 series. But what I don't get is why is my vehicles VIN not included"? it's obvious this is a defect with the production of these vehicles so why should myself or any other owner be responsible for this expensive repair? why are there only certain vehicles included" then I find out that if I'm in a crash, my passenger will not be protected!! this is not fair to owners and BMW should be held fully responsible. Another thing I don't understand is that I have a recall on the battery cables and that's covered! I read online that certain vehicles depending on the production date (thru 11/2005) are covered under the airbag recall. Well my BMW was manufactured in 11/2004! again, I don't understand why my VIN isn't covered. Not fair!! please help.....

My air bag/SRS lights are both illuminated on my car's dashboard and there are no codes of any kind listed. There is currently a recall for my vehicle but my car's VIN is not on BMW's list. I purchased my vehicle in germany while stationed overseas in the military and wonder if that is having a bearing on my status? I am experiencing exactly what is listed in NHTSA campaign id number: 08V384000 NHTSA action number: EA08001 but nobody is trying to assist me because my VIN is not listed in the recall. Any assistance you are able to provide would be much appreciated.

First, the battery. Second, the module that controls the radio, cd, controls on the steering wheels, info screen, almost everything stopped working. Third, right after I had this fixed, an error message came up that the passenger restraint system failed and may effect airbags. All this in a five month period.
