Since the alternator wasn't working...you can't start the car. I initially thought that the battery was bad since the voltage reading on the battery was just over 13V. Took it to the dealer to debug and repair. Be careful doing this yourself. Read the BMW boards. This is not as straight forward as doing it on an American vehicle.
