This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Intermittently unable to open the driver side door when pulling the interior door handle when the door is locked, due to the bowden cable becoming twisted you are unable to open the door without using the center unlock button. In the event of a fire or the battery being dead you'd have to use the passenger door. There was a tsa from BMW on this issue for a limited set of vehicle, see below, that I feel need to be expanded to a recall regarding the potential safety issue since in researching this issue it appears to effect more vehicles then are listed in the tsb. Tsb 51 26 15, dated Sep 1, 2015 describes the problem when the bowden cable malfunctions in cold weather. Rerouting of the cable is recommended. Please feel free to contact me to discuss this in more detail, [xxx]. thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
