This was easily my most terrifying issue with my even troublesome car. The rear view mirror started to blacken half way, and it was hard to see out of. I had Schomp BMW replace it for $1,400!!!!!! Dumb mistake, because not even an hour later it started to turn yellow, a few minutes after that bubbles started appearing in the mirror, then it started to look wet, and then, while driving 70 mph on the highway there was large POP and the mirror started leaking a thick black fluid everywhere. I drove directly to BMW of Denver Downtown (the closest dealer at the time), who informed me that my BMW had just sprayed the highly-toxic chemical MERCURY all over me. They put me in the service departments chemical shower, and sent me on my way with a chemical biohazard for a car. I got my money refunded from Schomp BMW, and bought a non-auto-dimming mirror from a junkyard, stuck it on, and never plugged it in.
