Extreme carbon build up similar to what happened to 335d. BMW told me a maintenance bulletin was just issued referencing 328d Carbon Buildup. It is recommend to have your 328d BMW Walnut Shelled every 50,000 miles. BMW doesn't know how to fix this problem. The dealer tech told me at 48,000 miles when I had to have the EGR Valve replaced it was most like due to carbon building on the head.
I asked if the car wasn't running correctly due to carbon buildup would it impact other parts of the engine and would this make the car fail an emission test. Dealer didn't know. If the diesel engine is not running right due to carbon build up does it still meet U.S. EPA Emission standards. Get some miles on it and I doubt it. BMW Corporate or dealer hasn't offered any explanation or remedies just it is what it is. So... sorry! Furthermore, I was told it will most likely happen again and perhaps this would be a good time for you to consider trading it in on a new one.
Of course my extended warranty will be up in 1100 miles. Great feeling knowing I purchased a BMW Diesel with the expectation of getting at least 200,000 before having major issues. BMW doesn't advertise the fact that the 2015 BMW 328D requires the head being ripped off and blasted with walnuts every 50,000 miles before I purchased the car. BMW should provide an extended warranty beyond 100,000 mile for the 328d if they can't find a cure to this problem. Biggest problem has been the diesel engine.
