As I was driving my wife to work this morning. Our conversation was interrupted by a thundering explosion! For about 4 or 5 seconds we were both totally confused and in a panic. My immediate thought was that we were experiencing a case of road rage and someone had shot out one of our windows. Considering that fact that it was only 6:50am, a road rage case was highly unlikely.
We felt glass falling and we saw it all throughout the car. We could hear a wind gust as we were traveling at about 60mph down the interstate during traffic hour. This was a very dangers and life-threatening event due to the time and place where it happened.
Once we had gathered our composure and pull over on the shoulder, we noticed that our sunroof had a huge hole in it. Our sunroof had exploded. I had never heard of such a thing before. We exited the interstate onto the service and pulled over to make sure neither my wife or I had sustained any major cuts due to the exploding glass. With the exception of a few minor cuts we are both okay.
Upon inspecting to vehicle, it was confirmed that the roof had indeed exploded. We noticed scratches in the paint job directly behind the roof and in the trunk. Huge chunks of glass were throughout the car as well as on the back window and trunk area.
This is a very dangerous situation. Thank the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob for His protection, otherwise this could have been the day that my wife and I got into a fatal traffic accident on a major interstate because our sunroof exploded.
I fully expect for my roof to be repaired without any out of pocket cost to me....
