This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The window regulator (I.e., the mechanical mechanism in the doors which raises and lowers the windows) appears to be faulty. I have replaced the regulators 6 times since 2000. These are repeated failures: The right front window regulator has failed twice (2003 and 2009); the left front regulator has failed twice (2003 and 2011); the left rear has failed once (2008) and the right rear has failed once (2007). BMW only covered the failures under the original warranty (2003). The others have been at my cost.
I drive a 2000 BMW 323I and at times due to a faulty center control module (most likely) I can not get out of my car. It will not unlock from the outside or inside, but thankfully I can roll down the windows if I need to get out. This is extremely dangerous if I needed to get out in a hurry. The BMW dealerships want to charge an arm and a leg to just possibly fix a problem. There are many others out there with similar problems.
