A faulty GM5 seems to be the reason for the driver-side door not unlocking with the remote key fob. The remote key can unlock the passenger's side door, but not the driver's side.

I was at a stop light when my passenger noticed black smoke coming out the air vent. From there I immediately pull over and removed as many personal items as possible. From there the fire took over the entire dashboard and proceeded to torch the interior.

While driving on highway heater setting on warm, smoke filled the cabin. Smoke was coming from center console and left side of glove box from underneath. Had to stop the vehicle in the middle of the highway and escape the smoke filled cabin the smoke turn to a flame from under the glove box. The car proceeded to totally burn from this incident. I reviewed the schematics to identify the only heating dissipating element located under there is the fsr blower motor control smoke appeared suddenly.

The doors do not unlock if they are parked in the sun in temp. In excess of 80-85 degrees. The door central locking does not work with either the keys (twice clicks to unlock all the doors). Once the drivers side is opened it takes 1/2 hour of air conditioning blast to have the system cool down and allow the unlocking with the button or the remote.

After having the control arm bushings replaced and a 4 wheel alignment completed at a BMW service dealership in tyler, tx, apparently the steering angle sensor (located at the bottom of the steering column) failed which caused the dynamic stability control (dsc), brake and ABS lights to illuminate. When the incident occurred, I was driving 70 mph on a dry highway using the cruise control. When this sensor failed, all three lights illuminated and the cruise control ceased to work. According to the BMW service department, there is no requirement to re-calibrate the steering angle sensor after an alignment is completed. Additionally, per the service manager at the BMW service department, they are replacing steering angle sensors in a variety of BMW automobiles at "3 to 4 per week". estimated cost to repair is between $500 - $1000.

The door locks of my car are electronically controlled via remote and a button on my center console. The GM5 door locking module has intermittent issues, one of which will not allow you to lock or unlock the doors while you are in the vehicle. In an emergency or accident one would not be able to exit the vehicle using the unlock button or remote.

I have a 2000 BMW 323 ci convertible and have problems with the remote trunk release. Neither the key fob nor the release button function; the only way to get into the trunk is with the key in the lock. I did some online research learned two things. 1. this is a very common problem. (type 'BMW trunk release problem' into a search engine to see the extent.) while the problems I have are merely annoying, it is not hard to imagine them being far worse. 2. the problem is in the harness where the wiring goes from the body to the trunk lid. This link is contains several pictures of exactly what I found when I pulled my harness back: www.M3forum.net/M3forum/showthread.php?T=248956. In my case, there are three completely broken wires, one that is hanging on by a few strands, and about 4 more where the insulation is at least partially cracked. Yes, the car is 10 years old, but this seems like a major design flaw to me.

The rear taillights on my car have burnt out. I thought it was the bulbs. But when I went to check, the brown wire on both of my taillights completely burned and also burned entirely causing damage to the harness.

2000 BMW 323I - eml, check engine soon and dsc lights came on and car powered down on the freeway (braked itself and would not accelerate). Needed tow to dealer. Car required replacement of engine throttle body and engine wiring harness and programmed the dme (digital motor electronics). This did not correct problem - throttle body had to be replaced again. This did not correct problem and after picking up car at dealership the service engine soon light came on again. This required the relay to be replaced. The day after the car was picked up the door and window locks were inoperable intermittently and the gear selector light would go out at the same time. This required replacement of the general module. Total repair time - approximately 1 month.

I experienced a typical problem with my 2000 BMW 323ci, as the subframe began to tear after only 57000 miles of use. After some complaining, I was able to get BMW to "goodwill" the repairs. But as soon as I picked up the car after the repairs were completed, the emergency brake parking light began to malfunction. It would come on when the brake was released etc. A couple weeks later the traction control light began to do the same thing. I didn't think too much of it, but now about 9 months later I have experienced severe electrical problems. First all the power stopped working, the headlights blinked, A/C and windows stopped working, power locks no longer worked. Then it somehow fixed itself. But a couple weeks after, something else happened and now I cannot even start my car. Again, it appears to be some sort of power problem, perhaps something draining the battery.
