Never has a door latch failed on any car I have owned. This is a certified BMW used car. There is no way for the owner to abuse this part... you click remote and door opens or closes. When it failed, we could not close the door! Had to hold it closed while driving.
BE AWARE... THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PARTS NOT COVERED BY YOUR USED CAR WARRANTY! They get weekly calls on this part not working... SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR! Buyer beware!!
Update from Jun 22, 2020: They did the right thing and charged a very reasonable price.
