The contact stated that upon taking his vehicle for service at otto's BMW (1275 wilmington pike, West chester, pa 193820) he was informed that the roll over control module was defective. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair which he declined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000. I took my car to otto's BMW for a state inspection, not for any other service, and otto's did not inform me that the roc module had failed. I found out the module had failed by using my code reader. When I tried to start my car to take it for the state inspection, I found the battery had died. When I replaced the battery, I found that the roc module had failed just because my car battery died. The roc module is a major safety module, that extends the head protection in a roll over accident. This module shouldn't fail simply because your car battery dies. Research online shows many owners of BMW's experience this module failure just because their battery was disconnected or their battery had fully disharged. I have never owned any other car that a major safety module failed just because the battery discharges. Every other car, I would simply replace the battery and everything still worked. This is a major safety issue when this module fails, as the roll over protection devices will not activate in a roll over accident, and this car is a convertible. This module costs over $500 at BMW dealers, and several hundred more for installation charges. Further research online shows that many owners fail to have this repair done due to the very high cost, or they go to a secondary market where these modules are repaired for a lower price. All of this is setting up owners for major injury or death if they are involved in a roll over accident and this module is not working properly. BMW should be required to repair this or at least offer a cost effective solut

The contact smelled an electronic burning odor and turned off the air conditioner. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 108,657.

Car was purchased with an extended warranty for up to 100,000.I kept experiencing the car vibrating as well as the low oil light appearing within weeks of servicing the car was taken back numerous times and was told they could not find anything while car was under warranty. In July aprrox at 106,000 my check engine light appeared was taken only to BMW for solve the issue have paid over $3800 for repair and light is still on. Was taken on Friday Sept 18 and on Sunday Sept 20 the light is on again. Spark plugs have been changed twice with 2 months this cannot be right. The car apparently has electrical problems and is unsafe.

On November 28, 2014, my wife and I purchased a 2009 BMW 1-series convertible from a local Chrysler dealer. We also purchased an extended warranty contract through the dealer. A few weeks later, my wife noticed the air bag icon on the dashboard was lit and a air bag "off " light located above the rear view mirror stayed on. We contacted the dealer to have it checked but the dealer could not diagnose the problem since they did have the diagnostic equipment to do so.they suggested that we take to a repair shop that had the equipment to test it. After the repair shop tested the system it was determined that air bag sensor located in the passenger seat was defective. The dealer's warranty company was then contacted by the repair shop to notified them about the failure and the cost to repair is estimated at approximately $1,800. We were then notified that the repair was not covered by the warranty. We then re-contacted the dealer to authorize the repair by the repair shop and they refused, saying that the repair was not covered by the type of warranty that we had purchased. Our concern is that because the air bag system is not operating correctly, there may be a chance of an accidental activation and deployment of the air bags and possibly injury. I read on the NHTSA's website that there is an investigation concerning the air bag systems on BMW's, id # 10052013 and think that this should be looked into further.

In addition, the contact stated that he received a recall letter from the manufacturer regarding certain bmws having problems with the fuel pump and reprogramming the vehicle if a warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,500 and the current mileage was 8,500.
