2005.5 Audi S4. 4.2L V8. Automatic. The oil leak started as a small drop here and there. Now, it's so bad I actually have to keep an old frying pan underneath the car to catch the dripping oil. I've had the problem "fixed" in the past. Valve cover gaskets and valley (pan?) gaskets were also replaced. After less than 20,000 miles, the car is leaking oil again and there's a smell of burning oil that comes through the A/C vents too. Sometimes there would actually be smoke rising from the car just because of the oil probably dripping and burning off on the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes. I was told by a "reputable" import garage that with these cars, the gaskets are routinely changed every 25,000 miles or so. And each time, it's nearly a thousand dollars to do it. The gaskets themselves don't cost much. It's the cost of labor involved which makes it so expensive to fix. On my car, the front bumper needs to come off for them to get to some of the gaskets which need replacing.
