Diagnostics in the gearbox control unit sporadically prevent the first selection of the reverse gear. Customer may report that reverse gear sporadically cannot be selected. A message in the instrument panel may read "Please use brake and select gear again". Reverse gear can then be selected. The complaint cannot always be reproduced. Faults are not stored in the transmission control module (TCM) (address word 02) or in the TCM 2 (address
word C2).
