Using Audi Active Lane Assist there is a control to assure you have hands on the wheel. On straight roads, there are frequent false alerts, even with hands on the wheel. In any position. Evidently this is due to Audi's implementation where the steering wheel is sensing lack of movement for 15 seconds. Unfortunately I get alerts as often as every five minutes. My dealership reports that this does not occur in other models, only the Q5, indicating some system flaw in engineering or implementation. Audi says the car is operating to specifications. Net result is I turn off the lane assist since it is too annoying to use. Result is less safe car, when lane assist is intended to actually make it safer.
