The car was purchased 16 months ago as a Certified Pre Owned car (the CPO extended warranty ran out 21 days before this incident, although I don't think it would have been covered anyway given what I have read on other blogs). It has always been serviced by Audi, most recently 14 months ago.
The issue is that the the drain holes for the sunroof tubes can get clogged, and cause the water to backup and bust/damage the tubes causing leaks. The "tubes" in the rear pass through 2 compartments that contain expensive and important electrical equipment (comfort control module) which isn't protected in any way....big rain, and clogged holes equals a flooded electrical component. The component was $6500 to re-wire (20 hrs of labor + parts). The TUBES were $25 in parts and 10 hours of labor since the entire headliner needs to come down to access them. 10 hrs @ $230 an hour...you can do the math. The entire repair was $9,000. I filed a complaint with Audi North America Customer Service and their response was "this is your problem". Others have said they refuse to cover it even under warranty.
Audi has been sued in a few jurisdictions for this issue, but not here in Florida. Only a matter of time before irate owners and a very thirsty class action attorney to take on this case here (which they have already lost in NJ and CA) and I will be the first in line.
