Leaking thru sunroof onto gear shift
I have owned 4 Audi vehicles.. This 2020 Audi Q3 Teknik is the 4th. On July 11th, when driving through a rain storm, water started coming into the cabin of the vehicle out of the overhead light fitting & dripping onto the gear shift and radio/gps unit. We had to get to our destination so tried to catch the water in plastic ziplok bags (see photos). Upon returning home on 15 July I immediately took the vehicle to my regular Audi dealership ( Audi St.Laurent) and explained what happened. The dealership service staff acknowledged that they have had lots of complaints about this design defect & that there was a long maintenance wait for appointments. No problem; I was booked in for 13 August 2024. No mention made as to being charged for this.
12 August brought the car to the Dealership (Audi St.Laurent), to find that I had to agree to a C$1,050+ ‘evaluation fee’. I declined to sign this. The dealership again agreed that this was a design defect but advised that they couldn’t accept the vehicle unless I signed. I asked to speak to the dealership maintenance supervisor who advised that, since the car was out of warranty, nothing could be done about the charge. I asked to go ‘up the chain of authority’ and spoke to someone at Audi Canada. I was told that, since Audi considered that it wasn’t a safety issue, then Audi couldn’t accept covering the cost! I was surprised & explained that I thought it most definitely was a safety issue. Audi also said to me that no coverage would be provided since the vehicle was out of warranty. I expressed the thought that since this was an Audi design defect (as expressed their own Audi staff) , and not a wear & tear/usage issue, then the warranty had nothing to do with it. After I asked to speak to his manager, the Audi Canada representative said he’d consider what I’d said & get back to me in 2 days. Called me back in 5 days to say there’s nothing they could do.
Separately I checked on the internet to discover that Audi have known about this defect since 2018/19. Yet they never advised me (or anybody?) about it prior to the expiry of the purchase warranty. We found that they have even issued a manual to their technicians to fix it. To the owner of the vehicle it appears that the cost to the client to do this repair ranges from C$3000-$5000.
