I have an Audi Q3 purchased on 12th February 2016 which is giving a repeated problem with the tyre pressure monitor system. This problem had all started when i was first given the opportunity to update the software for the TPMS specifically.
The explanation which was given to me by the workshop supervisor is that the TPMS will not detect the air pressure loss unless it deflates by 1 bar which is supposed to be 14.5 psi. Now I inflate the tyres at 33 psi and according to their logic the TPMS will not give me any indication before it deflates to 18.5 psi. Do you expect that the tyre will withstand the low pressure for long if it is underinflated on a long drive on highways as i usually travel on highways or for that matter anywhere? Then what is the use of the TPMS if i have to check it everytime i start driving. It's absolutely illogical and ridiculous isn't it? Moreover the front right tyre had to be replaced as the TPMS didn't give me any indication on the highway that the tyre is deflated. When it was shown to the tyre dealer, they said that it had run too long while it was on low air pressure and that the wall of the tyre had burnt rubber which finally lead to the crack of the side wall of the tyre. Logically speaking, if the TPMS had functioned properly then it would have given an indication beforehand that there is some problem with the air pressure. Which it didn't and finally i had to change the tyre which hardly had any wear and tear of the tread. I had visited the workshop again on 29th November 17 for the same problem where the sensor is not working and multiple lights are glowing in the cluster. I was told that the sensor on the front right is changed and the bearing too has been changed for the same wheel. I got the delivery on 1st december and to my utter dismay i experienced the problem of sensors yet again. Which again rules out the problem of bearings and that something else is wrong with my car. Is there any way that the sensitivity of the TPMS can be increased so that it can give an indication if it looses 4 to 5 psi of air. I hope i have been able to put my thoughts into words so that you can understand my situation and give me your best solution available. Awaiting your best cooperation and kind reply soon.
