CarComplaints.com Notes: The 3rd generation A8 got off to a slow start. Really slow, like "limp home" slow thanks to leaking antifreeze frying the engine's control modules. Thankfully the problem was recalled in September 2016.

Purchased the vehicle from Porsche Plano (suburb of Dallas). The 4.0T is a super engine, a hot-V design with the turbos on top.
Previously had to replace the Oil Separator, which is buried under the intercooler and does not require removing the turbos.
Engine failed while driving on interstate, considerably less power and when exiting the engine quit at end of ramp. Would not start unless you partially stepped on accelerator. Then it would only idle at 2000 rpm. Made it home by careful timing of 8 stop lights.
Contacted Audi of Plano (same owners as Porsche, AutoNation, next door) to no avail. No recall, no deal. Only 3000 miles from purchase. Well documented turbo failure due to oil screen being too small, trapping oil particles and starving the turbos. Audi is well aware of the issue, had re-designed the oil screen, also buried under the turbos.
There are not many of this engine sold, but the repair cost ($11,500) is almost half the value of the vehicle! That being said, any class-action would cover under 10,000 units.
