steering column locked

Over the past year I've had nothing but great experiences with this Audi, until spring started... Then after an extended trip (10+ minutes) the car will not recognize the key and will lock the steering after shutting off until about 10 minutes after, then the car will suddenly recognize the key and will start right up as if nothing was wrong.

Ah, March 20. The first day of spring. Optimism towards a fresh landscape and the sounds of natures symphony of animals. The day starts like any other, getting the 5 kids ready for their day, kissing the wife and heading off to work. All things are going well. Arrive at work and do what I do. Lunch time comes around and have the best burrito ever. Then head back to work for a couple more hours until it is time to leave. Put the key in the ignition and...SOB, the car wont start. The key goes in, the power comes on but the column is locked, the shifter is locked in part and the engine wont even turn over. Do some online research and find that this is a well known, well documented issue and it will likely cost me thousands to repair. How does AUDI get away with making engineering flaw after engineering flaw with no repercussions? How is there not a recall on this yet? Fortunately it did happen while not moving and in a safe location.

Frustrated and will never own an Audi again. #germanengineeringsucks
