After dealing with the fact that I had paid $13k for a lemon involved in a class action lawsuit that I had no clue about when I bought it, and that I couldn't really have use of and stressing and hoping the lawsuit would settle soon and involve a recall and repairs...it got worse...way worse.
I had been letting the car sit until around March when I began to realize that it could be another year before that lawsuit settled, so I began to use it to go to the store or somewhere close if I had no other car at the house. LITERALLY, at most one to two times a week, if that.
One night in May, I was driving on my street almost home and the car started to putter and not want to go. I could see my house so I pulled in the driveway. The check engine light was on and an EPC light. It was night and so I went inside and would address this nightmare in the morning. I think I kind of hoped it was just some kind of freak incident and maybe it would not be anything major when I got up. Wishful thinking! The next morning it would not start and we tried to at least try to try the battery. Of course that wasn't it, and I called the mechanic and he said have it towed Thursday. I paid to have it towed to him and he called later in the day and said "WELL, I WISH I HAD BETTER NEWS..." and he told me that the "timing had jumped", which he explained was the timing chain and that I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR AND COST WAS TYPICALLY 7K TO 9K.
I had it towed to a friend's business where he had parking behind a fence and thought maybe I'll try to save up for a used motor over the winter. THE KICKER IS... LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THE REASON MY CAR WAS INOPERABLE AND NEEDED A NEW MOTOR (and basically now worth scrap) WAS THE SUBJECT OF ANOTHER CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT (WHICH HAD ALSO BEEN LITIGATED AND AUDI WAS FULLY AWARE OF). I just found this out a couple of days ago and I am livid!! The fact that Audi knows of these serious issues (resulting in loss of the entire car) and my car is the subject of two serious issues that being litigated again because consumers have had to force Audi back into court because of their failure to recall, repair, or basically acknowledge the problem is absolutely absurd... that a large company like Volkswagen/Audi could be so shady and deceptive.
People like me are continuing to unknowingly buy the affected cars and face costly repairs or complete loss of the car. Both issues being very common and with a high chance of engine damage. I had a car for 7 months that I paid 13k for and I had driven it for a couple of months and barely at that (because I let it sit for four months hoping for a solution and paranoid to drive it). My car currently sits under a cover inoperable because I can't afford thousands of more dollars for a motor right after purchasing it. AND AUDI KNOWS ALL OF THIS, ALLOWS THE CARS TO BE SOLD TO PEOPLE WHO WILL IN ALL LIKELIHOOD SUFFER GREAT EXPENSES AND POTENTIAL LOSS BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO BUY AN AUDI. FURTHER, I HAVE READ THEY USUALLY FORCE THE EXPENSES ON THE CONSUMER EVEN AMID AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" THAT THEY FIND EVERY WAY TO DENY MOST ALL CLAIMS.
