2009 Audi A4 2.0 Wagon, Prestige package. Bought the car with 25,000mi and then drove avg miles annually for several years since. Pristine condition regularly maintained by dealer. Zero signs of any issues or prior warning. But then this week the engine suddenly ran very rough at low speeds with the engine warning light coming on. Turned car off. Towed to dealer.
Diagnosis came back that the timing chain tensioner had failed allowing the cylinders and pistons to collide and the engine therefore experienced a catastrophic failure as a result. The engine now needs to be completely replaced at our cost because outside and beyond warranty.
How can such a large issue as total replacement of an engine not be covered at only 77k miles? How can the manufacturer not have known about this potential failure and/or included it in regular maintenance routines? Is this Audi's new expectation that vehicles will only reach 70-80,000mi and then simply implode? Disgusted. Will start looking into class action options.
