My wife owns an Automatic 2004 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro. When the car is put into drive, or is stopped and in drive one must rev the engine up to 4,000 RPM, then all the transmission lights; PRNDS (Sport) flash red on the instrument cluster, then the car jets forward. We will not be replacing the transmission or control unit because it's pointless to replace something having a problem with the same thing that's only going to have that problem again (as others have posted).
I will be filing a complaint with Audi with the car's Vin #. I was a mechanic before I joined the Air Force and my recommendation is now not to purchase this vehicle due to this dangerous problem. If a transmission decides to suddenly transfer too much power into reverse while the car is moving forward down the highway, then the transmission turns into a bomb. Or, what if the electronic limiter which is linked to the control unit (also a common problem in this model year) decided not to work and the car selected the wrong gear? Just too, too dangerous.
