As reported by another user here, this follows an issue that's considered "normal" in the 2015 Acura TLX.
I just bought a brand new 2016 Acura TLX, and noticed on day two, the HVAC unit when put on floor vents only mode, makes a loud hissing sound from the vents closest to the defroster vents, in the center of the car. To me, it sounds like the vents are not sealed well when they're "disabled" or turned off. This causes a high pressure amount of air being forced through the small opening that may exist in the vents that are shut off, thus creating the loud hissss. This is constant in "Floor mode only". If I turn on any other ventilation option, thus opening these vents, the sound immediately stops. This further emphasizes in my mind bad design in vent closure.
I took this into the dealership, and because this happens on any and all brand new TLX's that they tested, they dismissed it as a non-issue and sent me on my way with my car. Just because every car is having this loud noises, doesn't mean it isn't a problem that Acura needs to address.
I advise everyone who's interested in buying a TLX test exactly this function and listen to how loud it is and whether or not you can live with that for the next X amount of years.
