The sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving the car. No other vehicles were around and no debris caused the sunroof to shatter. Glass blew in to oncoming traffic and into the car while it was being operated, which posed a risk to myself and other drivers. Upon further investigation, this is a know issue by Honda/Acura and a class action lawsuit has been file, yet the company is unwilling to make repairs to effected cars. There were no warnings etc prior to the sunroof shattering. The car was taken directly to the dealership for repairs and photos are available.
It is extremely difficult to see at night without having to use my bright lights. The low beams are useless and poses as a hazard to the driver and the driver of the approaching vehicles. I have replaced my headlights and I have purchased fog lights as an attempt to fix the problem but it still did not fix the problem. These additional costs were well over $500. I am requesting that Acura correct this problem before I or someone else gets hurt. [XXX], Owner, Phone number [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" I drive a 2015 Acura RDX. I was driving on I-5 south with no overpass above me at the time and my sunroof suddenly imploded. It sounded like a gun or bomb going off and I looked above to a hole in my sunroof and glass everywhere. It is available for inspection at Acura Bellevue. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes, the sudden noise and glass breaking going 60 miles per hour on the freeway would have easily caused an accident. It was raining and nighttime as well. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Insurance hasn't sent a rep out yet, but via pictures and research they are investigating. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, they will not take responsibility although there are multiple accounts of this happening on Hondas and Acuras, there is currently class action suit in court. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" None. Not a single sign.
Put my car in park in driveway with the engine running, stepped out of my vehicle and it started moving forward, hitting the garage. The car hit the garage and I tried to push it backwards, it moved backward after hitting the garage and started rolling away from the garage. My baby was in the car, so I got in the open door of the car and attempted to move the gear shift out of P towards D, thinking this would help stop the car as I stepped on the brake pad. During this entire period, the car was making a grinding sound, which I assume was the brakes. The car finally stopped rolling and came to a stop as I stepped on the brake a second time. The driveway is on a downward slope so the car was gaining momentum as it bounced off the garage. There minor damage done to car but the garage door will need to be replaced since it is badly damaged.
