After purchasing the MDX, a month later there was a faint whine from the engine. The whining got louder and it only occurs from 30mph onwards. If you release the gas it goes away, touch the gas pedal and it comes back. Now it is persistent whether you are pressing the gas or not. Acura engineering came out and inspected the vehicle. The result is that the gear grinding is normal on all non turbo 22 and 23 MDX, some louder than some, however suck it up. This reflects poorly on the manufacturer, not taking responsibility for the issue or looking further into the problem. Internet searches found numerous owners who have this same issue and are frustrated.
The whining is very annoying and can be really awful at Ike’s for it sounds like the vehicle has tinnitus. Poor designed transmission and possible future issues does not give owners assurances they need for a luxury vehicle. The lack of response or follow up by Acura does not sit well. I would certainly trade it in for a Lexus but do not want to take a 10k loss. Buyers should look elsewhere for there are numerous brands without transmission whining-and brands that would have disclosed the issue up front before consumers purchase. Now we are stuck in the rut.
