I have a 2014 Acura MDX that I purchased brand new. We pamper this car and keep it in the garage and it only has 71,000 miles on it. One morning I came out and noticed a huge piece of paint had peeled off the roof right in front of the Sunroof. I took the car to Concord Acura and they told me this is a common problem for this car especially with the paint color of Pearl White which our car is. There was an extended warranty but we are just past the warranty period so we now must have the roof painted at our own cost. The dealer estimate is $2100 to paint the roof as they have to remove the front windshield and the sunroof to paint the roof and they will need the car for 4 days.

I have read online this is a very common problem with this make model and paint color. I have had cars that were 30 years old with no paint issues, so I am disappointed to say the least to have a car that is garaged, pampered has low miles, is only 8 years old and has paint that is just falling off the car? It seems to me like Acura should stand behind their paint jobs. I'm, getting ready to buy a new car and was thinking about a new Acura as I like the car, but I'll never buy another Honda or Acura now and if I were you I wouldn't either. Larry from California.

paint issues

So my 2014 Acura MDX is now 8 years old and it is just outside the warranty. I came out one morning and saw a big chunk of paint on the ground. It just fell off the passenger side door. After speaking with Acura Corporate, they instructed me to go to the dealer and get an estimate. I went to the nearest dealer, which was 90 miles away, they took pictures, but are only willing to fix the roof and the hood where they are having known peeling issues. Paint just doesn't fall off cars. Yes, I get it, the car is over 8 years old. my daughter has a 14 year old car and the paint is perfectly intact. Acura is refusing to repair the door. This is my sixth Acura and my last!

My 2014 Acura MDX paint is peeling all over the car. Acura had a recall for the white 2014 MDX paint issues just for the roof, and do not want to cover all the other paint issues. Acura knew there was a paint issue for the white MDX's, so it should cover the whole vehicle not just the roof! I've been going round and round with Acura and they will fix roof but are saying it was rock chips and will not cover the body.

When you pay over $50,000 for a car, the paint should not peel off 7 years later. This car's trade in value will be horrible with the paint peeling all over the car. I was going to give this car to my daughter and buy a new Acura, but this experience has me considering other cars.

The paint is bubbling on the roof between the windshield and the sunroof when it is wet. The water under the paint then runs into the inside of the car onto the headliner up by the windshield. The dealer found the problem due to the leaks and says it needs to be repainted and resealed. They ask me to contact my insurance company. They say it is a defect in the paint and ask me to take it up with the dealer. The car is still under the extended warranty. Hopefully the dealer will take care of the problem. I believe the problem has existed for a few years, however the dealer just told me about the bubbling paint. It has leaked on and off for a number of years.

I will update this after I get a solution.

I bought this Acura MDX 2014 used because I wanted to try something different. I got it from a Acura dealership, that's why I was not buying junk. The paint is chipping off the roof and there's corrosion forming in the bottom of one of the doors. This is not normal for a 4 or 5 years old car. I was tired of Chevy and Ford but this is worse. I took the SUV back to the dealership but they asked me why it took me so long to tell them 2 or 3 months. I work out of town so I park the truck inside the garage when I'm gone. It's a nice truck but with this kind of problems, I don't know if I'm going to ever buy another vehicle from Acura.

I was washing my wife's MDX and noticed the paint was bubbling on the roof between the windshield and sunroof. I realized that water has somehow worked it's way under the paint. The bubbles disappeared later in the day when the sun came out. I tied to recreate the problem, but couldn't. Luckily, It rained a few days later and the bubbles appeared again.

My wife took the car to the dealer right away so they could see first hand what was going on. The first comment was the warranty is 4 years and the car was 9 months past. We have been going to the same dealership for 15 years so he said he would contact corporate and file a claim. The service manager measured the paint and verified that the car was never in an accident.

Within 3 days Acura agreed to repaint the roof. We got the MDX back and it looks good. Hopefully, the paint will last 10 more years. If your dealership isn't willing to file a claim with Acura's corporate office, find another one.

Update from Sep 9, 2019: 14 months have passed and guess what? The pearl white paint is peeling in the same place as before. The Acura dealership sent the MDX to their paint shop to be repainted and guaranteed it for life. We took it back to the dealer and the dealer said our claim is now with the paint shop. The paint shop said they have have never had a repeat on the same problem. The paint shop repainted the roof again and hopefully it last more than 14 months.

Went out to my car one morning and found paint between front windshield and moon roof was bubbling and peeling off. I immediately took it to the dealer where I purchased. I spoke to a technician who was very helpful, took some pictures and said it looked like a factory defect. The technician then spoke with the service manager who told me my original warranty expired nine weeks ago and there was nothing they could do at the dealer level. I would have to escalate it to the corporate level. I purchased an extended warranty with my car but was told paint is not covered. Currently working with corporate who is trying to get a hold of the dealer who is not "getting back to them". Really? How about just fixing the problem. The primer underneath the paint is perfect. Paint doesn't just bubble and peel unless it didn't adhere correctly in the first place. I am really disappointed in Acura's response to this. I really expected more.

The clearcoat is flaking off the door. I'm mad because I bought a high end luxury vehicle for a lot of money and the only thing Acura will do for me is repaint it. They won't back the paint job. Won't pay for my hassle of running back and forth to the dealer and body shop. Acura ought to be ashamed of selling cars with blemishes and hope the customers don't notice. Screw Acura..

Screw Honda. I wanted to trade it in but the dealer will only give me $16000 less than I paid for it. This car isn't a year old yet and only has 10000 miles on it . Acuras hold their value my a$$. I WANT WHAT I PAID FOR!!!I I should have bought a Kia for $20000 less.

Acura keeps on saying send to body shop we will fix it. Not acceptable for a $55K car.
