On a rainy day, myself, wife, and two young children were driving to a friend's house, travelling approximately 30km/h when the car went completely dead, causing the vehicle to lurch, and momentarily losing steering and braking capacity (I suspect that it was only the power steering and brakes that went, though I can't confirm since it was so brief). Just prior, the entire panel lit up then went completely black. Luckily, nobody was behind us, we were travelling slow, and the car restarted on its own a second or two later, but needless to say this was a very frightening experience. When we stopped the car and turned it off the power went off again (no interior lights, no 'goodbye' on the dashboard display - we even lost power to the locks temporarily locking our children in the back since the child locks were engaged). Oddly enough, when I next tried to start the car about 1 minute later it didn't work on first turn (absolutely no response) but on the second turn all systems kicked on again, though the radio made a huge static blast, almost like a blown speaker. I haven't driven the car since, and have no intention of doing so until the problem is diagnosed. I hate to think what might have happened were we on the highway and not even able to turn on our hazard lights. Seems to me something like this warrants a recall.
