We purchased a 2001 Acura MDX, used, for our 18 year old son. Within 9 months, it began shifting poorly. Of course, with a young driver, he didn't know what was going on. Just by happenstance, we were taking it around for tires, oil change, etc. They pulled the tranny dipstick and said 'you're tranny's shot'. we had it towed back to the car lot service department, where they confirmed. Then, luckily, we were at just under 122,000 miles, which is where my extended warranty would have expired! it was replaced under that warranty, with my only having to come out of pocket just over $700, which I paid for betterment B/C I elected to get a brand new transmission, rather than a used one with almost as many miles on it as the original! I have looked and asked around and I am not able to confirm that there is, indeed, a recall on the tranny itself, just on the converter, which was not replaced in my circumstance. But, if someone knows different or learns about a recall later, please post!
Our 2001 Acura MDX (with approx. 25000 miles) stops running abruptly when driving for no apparrent reason, resulting in engine shut down, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and all systems. This vehicle has been to the dealer for repair 2 times, and is being towed again today, April 10, 2004 for the 3rd time in one month. Dealer repair service unable to determine cause on 1rst occasion March 12, 2004. Second occasion march26, 2004 resulted in a replacement of the *idle air contol valve and it's adjustment (*part # 16022-pba-AO3) this obviously did not fix the problem. We now fear for our lives to drive this vehicle. No matter what the third repair attempt outcome, we will get rid of this vehicle.
