Back up camera on 2011 Outback typically shows a blue screen. Online boards show it needs to be replaced at a cost of around $500 (parts and labor).
This is my wife's car and she relies on that camera when she drives, so I expect I'll bite the bullet and get it replaced soon.
Very disappointing and appears to be a common problem.
