Subaru Recalls Legacy and Outback Over Knee Guards
Subaru Legacy and Outback cars and SUVs may not properly protect a driver in a crash.

— About 54 Subaru Legacy and Outback cars and SUVs are recalled because of problems that can increase the chances of a driver being injured in a crash.

The 2017 Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles are equipped with knee guard brackets that may not be properly attached to the steering beam assemblies. The knee guard is meant to help provide additional protection to a driver in a crash, especially if they aren't wearing a seat belt.

Subaru says the current knee guard may not be able to properly restrain a driver's lower body if they aren't restrained with a seat belt.

The recalled Subaru Legacy and Outback cars and SUVs were built September 21, 2016, to September 23, 2016.

A Subaru dealer will inspect the knee guard welding on the steering beam and if needed, the steering beam will be replaced. However, Subaru doesn't know when the recall will begin.

Owners of 2017 Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles can always contact the automaker at 800-782-2783 and ask about recall number WTL-72.
